Tuesday, October 21 Perot Systems Corporation broke ground at the University of Nebraska Technology Park to launch construction of its new office facility. Nebraska Lieutenant Governor Rick Sheehy, Lincoln Mayor Chris Beutler, members of the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce and Lincoln business community attended.

“This groundbreaking ceremony is the result of months of hard work and commitment by all of the organizations involved,” said John Vonesh, president of Perot Systems’ insurance and business process solutions group, “We are thrilled to be part of such an amazing facility which will benefit both Perot Systems associates and the community of Lincoln. The trust and cooperation shown throughout this process by all parties has been great. ”

Perot Systems is a worldwide provider of information technology services and business solutions. Through its flexible and collaborative approach, Perot Systems integrates expertise from across the company to deliver custom solutions that enable clients to accelerate growth, streamline operations and create new levels of customer value.

The new building site at the Technology Park will consolidate generations of Business Process Solutions from six locations in Lincoln. It will move 750 employees to the Park upon completion.

VP of Infrastructure Solutions at Perot Systems Steve Barnes said he knew Lincoln would be a great choice for the company to expand. He praised Lincoln for having great technology industry talent, having strong relationships between state and local government with private businesses, having solid curriculum at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and being a great place to live.

Koll Development Company (KDC), a national real estate development and investment company, will develop the new facility and lease it to Perot Systems. This facility will be KDC’s first Nebraska construction project. KDC provides a full range of commercial real estate development.

“The Green Building Council sets LEED certification guidelines and we will meet and exceed those expectations,” said Steve Van Amburgh, CEO of KDC. This project will be the largest private LEED certified project undertaken in Nebraska. Sampson Construction will act as a general contractor for KDC to complete Perot System’s facility by the end of 2009.

The office facility will utilize environmentally friendly features. Green features include an under-floor air system, which Van Amburgh explained as “working on a platform.” This will allow energy efficient heating and cooling providing greater flexibility over time with expected growth. Design and architectural elements will also make the office facility eco-friendly.

“This project represents a great team effort between the public and private sectors," said Van Amburgh, “This will result in a unique campus facility for Perot Systems that is cost efficient and environmentally responsible.”

Upon completion, the 150,000-square-foot office complex will bring 150 new high-tech positions. These positions will be in the new global Infrastructure Solutions division of Perot Systems. The employee annual payroll will total approximately $7.5 million.

Perot Systems will be the 18th firm at the Technology Park, and upon completion will become its largest employer with approximately 900 associates.
