Out of over 500 student athletes at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, University of Nebraska Technology Park administrative intern Adrion Hernandez was chosen to participate in the National Student-Athlete Development Conference. The conference will be held May 24 – 27 in Orlando, Florida at the Walt Disney World Coronado Spring Resort.
“The conference is to better enhance volunteer efforts of student-athletes,” said Hernandez. “It is really an honor. I was really surprised to be nominated and even more surprised to be chosen.” The Academic Center staff, who offers academic support to student-athletes, nominates athletes to attend the conference. Three were nominated, but only Hernandez was selected to participate. 700 student-athletes will attend the 2009 national conference.
Hernandez began his gymnastics career at the University in 2007 as a walk-on. He quickly earned a spot competing in several events, such as the floor exercise, vault and high bar.
In 2008, Hernandez suffered a shoulder injury which ended his ability to compete during the season. Hernandez continues to provide academic success as a Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll student and adds academic excellence to the NU gymnastics’ squad. He hopes to be able to perform in the 2010 season.
