Tech Park gains bus routes to begin in February

Effective February 1, 2010, the University of Nebraska Technology Park will be serviced by Lincoln Public Transportation. Busses will run hourly in the mornings and afternoons, providing park employees with a new option for getting to work.
Steve Frayser, president of the University of Nebraska Technology Park, said the city was very cooperative in arranging routes for Tech Park, something all employees can be grateful for, even those individuals who continue to drive to work. Because the Tech Park is now part of a bus route, employees can expect roads to be plowed by the city. Also beginning in February is the "quarter fare promotion." Bus fare for the entire month will be only a quarter for each ride.
The advantages of public transportation include not only environmental plusses such as improved air quality and reduced energy consumption, but also such benefits as eased traffic congestion, more livable communities, and even safer travel (the Central Midlands Regional Transit Authority says riding a transit bus is 91 times safer than car travel). Individual benefits might include time to read the newspaper or less money spent fueling up personal vehicles.
Employees at the park are encouraged to take advantage of the new routes.
"We are very excited to be able to offer public transportation," said Frayser, "and hope that Tech Park tenants will utilize the routes.
